1. 개요
경상남도 합천군 용주면 평산리에 위치한 습지.2. 설명
경상남도 합천군 용주면 평산리 174-2에 위치한 박실저수지(박실늪), 경상남도 합천군 대양면 정양리(정양늪), 경상남도 합천군 청덕면 가현리[제정] 일대로 1934년 천연기념물 제2호로 위 3곳이 지정되었다. 1964년 합천군 청덕면 가현리 일대가 먼저 천연기념물 지정에서 제외 되었으며[3] 1973년 '보존가치 상실'로 천연기념물에서 해제되었다. 해제 사유는 보존가치 상실이었으며 이미 해제 몇년 전 부터 백조가 합천 및 우포늪을 경유하지 않고 낙동강 하구로 이동함에 따라 찾아오는 백조 수가 감소하고 있었다.박실저수지 북서쪽 제방에 일제강점기 때 천연기념물로 지정하면서 설치한 비석이 있었는데 지금은 마을로 이전시켰다.
박실늪은 둘레 5.5km, 넓이 40ha이며 황계폭포에서 내려오던 황계천의 물이 황강에 들어가다가 역류하여 만들어진 늪이다.
천연기념물에서 지정 해제되었지만 아직도 이곳에는 여름에는 백로들이 겨울에는 백조 무리가 무리지어 찾고 있다고 한다.
