1. 개요

리그 오브 레전드 프로게임단 T1의 악성 팬덤을 지칭하는 멸칭. 절대다수가 페이커의 개인 악성 팬덤의 성향을 띄어, '페이커'와 '기독교'를 합쳐 '페독'이라는 멸칭으로도 불린다.[1]

2. 특징

T1의 옛 약자인 SKT를 한국식으로 읽은 '슼\'[2]과 현재는 폐쇄된 래디컬 페미니즘 커뮤니티 메갈리아의 '갈\'을 합친 합성어다.

T1은 과거 스타크래프트 시절부터 임요환, 최연성, 김택용 등 스타 플레이어들의 등장과 대기업 SK의 막대한 후원에 힘입어 많은 업적을 이룩하며 명문 게임단으로서 입지를 다졌다. 여기에 더불어 스타리그가 몰락하고 리그 오브 레전드가 본격적으로 한국 e스포츠 씬에 자리잡기 시작하던 무렵, 혜성처럼 등장하여 정상의 자리를 차지한 페이커는 자신의 출중한 실력과 더불어 OGN의 간판 스타 밀어주기[3], 모기업 SK의 지원에 힘입어 머지않아 롤판의 최고 스타로 등극하게 되었다.

SKT는 모기업 SK의 막대한 지원으로 LCK 엑소더스 사태를 피해가며 최고의 로스터를 유지했고, 출중한 실력을 갖춘 최고의 스타 플레이어 페이커와 훌륭한 실력을 갖춘 팀원들을 계속해서 유지해나가며 왕조를 이뤄냈다. 이를 통해 계속해서 팬들이 이탈 없이 유입되었고, e스포츠를 넘어 타 프로스포츠 구단의 인기까지 넘볼 정도로 거대한 팬덤을 가진 팀이 되었다. 이로 인하여 구단이나 선수를 자신과 동일시하거나 타 팀을 무시하는 안하무인격의 악질 팬들도 많이 양산되었는데, 다른 어지간한 게임단의 팬덤보다 규모가 큰 수의 악질 팬들이 나타났다. T1 관련 커뮤니티뿐만 아니라 디시인사이드 롤갤, 에펨코리아 롤갤, 더쿠 등 접속자가 많으면서도 e스포츠를 다루는 커뮤니티라면 무조건 존재한다고 볼 수 있으며, 워낙 그 수가 많다보니 리그 오브 레전드 관련 커뮤니티가 아닌 곳에서도 종종 찾아볼 수 있다.

당연하지만 정상적인 T1 팬덤과 슼갈을 동일시하면 안 된다. T1을 순수하게 응원하는 사람들도 있기 때문. 다른 팀 팬덤들도 이는 마찬가지다.[4]

슼갈이라는 이름 때문에 구 SKT, 현 T1의 악성 팬덤으로 볼 여지가 있지만 실상은 페이커의 악성 개인 팬에 더 가까우며, 페이커의 팀이기 때문에 T1과 팀원들을 옹호하며 보호하는 모습을 보이다가도 페이커에게 위해가 된다 싶으면 팀이고 팀원이고 할 것 없이 공격하는 모습이라 사실상 슼갈은 해당 팬덤의 성격을 제대로 표현한 네이밍은 아니라고 할 수 있다.

3. 단어의 유래

단어가 만들어질 2017년에 옆동네 오버워치의 루나틱 하이의 악질 팬덤을 '루갈'이라고 부른 것에서 따온 것으로, 여자 팬이 많았던 오버워치 특성상 가장 인기팀인 루나틱 하이에 여자 팬덤이 많은 것은 당연한 일. 그렇게 루나틱 하이가 보여주는 여자 팬덤 특유의 성향을 루갈이라고 부르다가 뱅 논란 당시에 슼 팬덤이 보여주던 행동 성향이 루갈과 비슷하다는 것에 착안한 롤갤에서 수입해서 사용했던 것이다. 즉, 본래는 롤갤에서만 쓰던 단어였고, 다른 커뮤니티에서는 써봐야 '슼충', '슼빠' 정도가 사용되었었다.

그러던 와중 리프트 라이벌즈 이후 OGN 트위치 광역 밴 사건 때 그동안 어떤 선수 비하 단어를 쓰든 말든 꿈쩍않던 OGN 공식 채팅방이 갑작스럽게 '슼갈'을 포함하여 메갈 단어가 하나 하나 다 차단되는 것을 본 사람들이 많아졌고, '슼갈' 이라는 단어가 롤 인벤에까지 널리 알려지게 되었다.[5] 그리고 공식 트위터 계정의 메갈리안 논란 이후 정말로 메갈리아와 엮이게 되면서 모든 롤 커뮤니티에 광범위하게 퍼졌다.

왜 하필 '갈'이 붙었냐면, SKT의 일부 악질 여성 팬덤의 행동 양식이 프로게이머 팬의 그것이 아닌, 일반적인 여초 아이돌 팬덤과 유사할 뿐더러, 뱅 아주부 스트리밍 트롤 사건 때 트위터에서 SKT 팬들이 '한남'이라는 표현을 사용하며 활동하던 것이 계기가 되어 사용되기 시작하였다. 실제로 그 당시 그들의 캡쳐본을 보면 '재기', '한남' 등 메갈 용어가 당당히 튀어나온다. 이처럼 본인이 응원하는 선수를 옹호하고, 그들 방식으로 '보호'를 한다는 명목으로 당당하게 메밍아웃을 하고 돌아다니곤 했다.[6] 게다가 슼마갤 고닉의 트위터를 추적해 봤더니, 남자를 예비 강간범이라며 비하하는 트윗이 나왔고, 위에서도 언급한 사건인 공식 트위터가 래디컬 페미니즘 계정에 좋아요를 누른 사건 이후로는 메갈리아에서 따온 '갈' 명칭이 완전히 굳어져 슼갈이라고 불리고 있다.

과거 SKT의 악질 남성 팬덤에겐 슼충이라는 호칭이 더 사용되었고, 대중화도 더 빨리 되었다.[7]

4. 악성 팬덤이 생겨나기까지의 과정

SKT는 리그 오브 레전드가 아니더라도 과거 00년대 스타크래프트 시절부터 프로리그 최다 우승 팀으로 e스포츠를 주름잡았던 명문 구단이었으며, 그에 맞게 거대한 규모를 가졌던 SKT 팬덤 또한 전통적으로 아이돌 팬덤과 비슷한 강성적인 팬덤 문화를 가지고 있었다. 이는 임요환, 홍진호, 이윤열 같은 대형 개인 선수 팬덤이 그 선수가 소속된 팀의 팬덤으로 변화한 역사가 있기 때문이다.

시간이 흘러 스타크래프트 e스포츠가 쇠퇴하고 LoL e스포츠가 시작되어 흥행세를 이어나가고, 이러한 흥행세에 자극받은 LoL e스포츠에 스타 리그와 마찬가지로 대기업 팀들이 참가하기 시작했다. 이러한 흐름 속에서 SKT는 솔로랭크에서 이름을 날리던 페이커 선수를 중심으로 강력한 팀을 구축했고, 그 이후 쭉쭉 성공가도를 밟으며 경이로운 수준의 금자탑을 쌓아올렸다. 이렇게 높은 커리어를 쌓은 SKT는 다수의 LoL e스포츠 시청자들 뿐 아니라 구 스타크래프트 시절부터 SKT를 응원하던 강성 팬덤까지 팬덤으로 흡수하게 된다. 그러나 팬덤의 규모가 커지면 문제점이 서서히 드러나기 마련인데 하물며 구 SKT 팬덤을 흡수해버린다면 어떤 일이 생기게 될까. 모든 팬이 그런건 아니지만 자신이 응원하는 팀이 강팀이면 약팀, 약자를 멸시하는 강팀충 성향을 띄게 되는 일부 몰상식한 팬들이 있다. 이는 SKT도 예외는 아니었으며, 심지어 거기에 구 스타 리그 시절 활동하던 SKT 팬덤의 배타적이고 오만한 팬덤 문화가 더해지며 이른바 슼갈이라는 멸칭으로 불리는 끔찍한 혼종이 탄생하게 된 것.

최초에는 이러한 슼갈이 커뮤니티를 뒤흔들 정도는 아니었지만, SKT가 2013년에서 2017년까지 이르는 기간동안 대부분을 세계 최고의 팀 중 하나로 보내면서 많은 팬들이 유입되었고, 때문에 필연적으로 악성 팬덤의 크기도 크게 불어났다.

T1은 과거든 현재든 압도적인 팀이라 악성 팬덤을 자체 생성하는 것은 변함이 없다. 별개로 악성 팬덤 슼갈과 안티 팬덤 슼까의 충돌은 커뮤니티에서 일상이 되었으며, 추가적인 악순환을 일으키고 있다.

2024년에는 T1이 월즈 리핏에 성공한 후 제우스의 이적 사가에서 조 마쉬 CEO가 명확한 타임라인을 공개하지 않았음에도 불구하고 조 마쉬를 맹목적으로 신임하여 명확한 증거도 없는 상황에서 제우스가 템퍼링을 저질렀다고 무수한 비난을 가하는 동시에, 한화생명의 모기업의 비리까지 언급하며 한화생명 구단과 팬덤에게도 비하의 영역을 넓혀 사실상 커뮤니티 활동이 불가능한 상태로 만들었다. 이것이 더욱 기괴한 행적인 이유는 T1 팬덤은 그간 2020년 무리한 시즌 중 광고 동원, 폴트-LS 감코진 선임, 2022년 유료 멤버십 유포 등 조 마쉬가 그간 벌여온 행적 때문에 조 마쉬에 대한 반감이 대부분이었는데, 이적 사가 논란 당시 에펨코리아, 디시인사이드 등의 커뮤니티에서는 조 마쉬, 안웅기 COO의 이모티콘을 만들고 팬클럽을 자처하는 세력까지 나오는 등 조 마쉬와 프런트에 대한 무한한 신뢰와 그를 믿음직한 사장님으로 받아들이는 등 정반대되는 행보를 보여 도대체 어느 쪽의 스탠스가 맞는 것이냐는 의문만을 남겼다.

결국 2025 LCK CUP에서 이들이 템퍼링을 했다고 몰아갔던 제우스가 POM을 받을 정도로 맹활약 끝에 T1을 탈락시키며 그간 벌여왔던 만행들을 전부 재조명받게 되었다.

6. 커뮤니티별 분포

디시인사이드

리그 오브 레전드 갤러리
갈드컵의 발상지이자, 유튜브의 롤 e스포츠 댓글창을 망친 주범. 악성 T1 팬들과 까들, 그리고 롤갈들이 매일같이 갈드컵을 벌이는 갤러리인지라 T1이 지속적으로 언급된다. T1이 경기를 승리하고 좋은 경기력을 보여줄 때는 악성 T1 팬들과 롤갈들이 합세해 상대 팀 및 라이벌 선수들에 대한 비방, T1이 패배하거나 좋지 않은 경기력을 보여줄 때는 반대로 T1 및 페이커를 비방하는 글이 계속해서 올라오기도 한다.
마이너 갤러리
현재 T1 관련 마이너 갤러리는 총 3곳이 있다. 원래는 한 곳(SKT 마이너 갤러리)에 모여있다가 선수별 파벌이 매우 심해지자 갈라서게 된 것. T1팬이라기보단 페이커 개인팬 위주의 SKT 마이너 갤러리, 팀 팬 위주라 성적을 위해서라면 페이커를 강판해도 별 문제없다는 주의인 T1 마이너 갤러리, 페이커의 부진은 모두 구마유시 탓이라는 구까 성향의 LCK T1 응원 마이너 갤러리까지 매우 어지러운 계파를 자랑한다. '가족같은' 분위기가 모토였으나 성적 부진의 원인을 따지며 다투다 각 선수들의 개인 팬덤간의 전쟁터가 된 현 T1 팬덤의 주소를 보여주는 사례다.

SKT 마이너 갤러리 (슼마갤)
T1 팬덤의 주요 활동지 중 하나. 본래는 SKT 갤러리가 따로 있었고 그곳에서 오래 활동을 해 왔지만 17년 1월부로 쏟아지는 어그로들을 감당하지 못 하고 마이너 갤러리로 이주하면서 탄생했다. 이후 2017년 내내 SKT 팬과 악성 팬들, 강팀충들이 뒤섞여 활동해왔으나 2018년 SKT가 크게 부진하자 강팀충들과 일부 팬들이 갤러리를 떠났고, 남은 유저들도 타 갤러리에서 찾아오는 분탕충과 갖가지 비난, 조롱에 이리저리 치인 나머지 좀더 신중한 행동을 하기 시작했다.][8] 결과론적으로 타팀 선수 비방글, 무조건적인 SKT 선수 찬양글이 많이 줄었고, 꼬마 감독의 밴픽과 선수 기용에 대한 비판 및 힐난이 늘어났다. 다만 그 밖에는 주요 라이너들의 치명적인 실수에 대한 날선 비판도 드러냈고, 전반적인 개념글들은 진심어린 조언이나 애정을 담은 글들이 대다수를 차지했다.[9]
2019년 그럴듯한 선수진을 갖추자 이번에야말로 상위권 성적은 기본이고 우승까지 하기를 바랬지만 케스파컵에서 담원에게 분패하고 그리핀과 샌드박스 등에게 연달아 패배하는 과정을 거치며 분노가 쌓인 나머지 신경질적으로 변했다. 그런 분노가 피해망상이 되어 클템을 비롯하여 롤 팬들을 비난하는 글이 올라와 갤러리에 상주하는 다수의 공감을 얻었다. 19 스프링이 끝난 시점에서 SKT가 결국 우승하면서 분노할 일이 없어진 탓인지 이전 클템비방급의 악행은 더 이상 나오지 않고 있다. 다만 예전처럼 욕을 먹지 않기 위해 갤러리 내 분위기를 어느 정도 통제하고, 어그로로 판단되는 글과 작성자를 바로 처리하였다. MSI에서 통한의 4강 탈락을 겪자 어그로를 차단하려 애를 쓰는 한편 롤갤 개념글에 올라가는 내용들을 저격하였다.[10] 19년 롤드컵에서는 4강에 머물렀고 당해 스토브리그에서 칸 클리드를 놓친 프런트+CEO 조 마쉬의 행보에 불타오르기도 했지만 20년에 들어 롤갤이 소위 갈드컵이라고 불리는 젠지 팬 VS DRX 팬 VS T1 팬의 전쟁터가 되면서 더 이상 슼마갤이 압도적인 구도는 나오지 않고 있다. 20년 스프링에서는 가장 대립 각을 세웠던 젠지를 3:0으로 대파, 칸나의 성장과 커즈의 캐리력 등 긍정적 요소들로 갤 분위기는 안정적인 상태. 그러나 서머 시즌 종료 이후 와일드카드전 탈락과 클페클 기용으로 불타올랐고 결국에는 서머 시즌과 전혀 다른 로스터로 선발전에서 석패하였다.
T1 마이너 갤러리
2021 스프링 직전 SKT 마이너 갤러리에서 페이커 기용을 두고 프런트 및 감코진을 비판하자 이를 비롯한 갤러리 분위기에 염증을 느낀 몇몇 SKT 마이너 갤러리 이용자들이 T1 마이너 갤러리로 이동하며 활성화되었다. SKT 마이너 갤러리의 페이커 일변도에 가까운 분위기 및 완장들의 제재 등을 증오한다.

속칭 티응갤. 2024년 7월 T1의 성적 부진으로 인하여 T1 미니 갤러리의 폭파와 함께 생긴 갤러리로, 극단적인 친 페이커 성향이며 안티 구마유시, 안티 T1 성향이다. 2024년 말과 2025년, 2026년 초 까지 구마유시를 대상으로 한 엄청난 사옥 근조화환 테러와 트럭 시위를 주도 한 곳이며 선수 개인의 사생활 침해와 불법적인 현수막 게재 및 불법 선전물 유포 등 현실적인 범죄 행위까지 저질렀다. 구마유시를 옹호하는 것은 게임에 대한 지식이 없는 여초 팬덤의 입김이라고 판명하고 캐리력이 없고 딜을 못 넣는 구마유시 대신 스매쉬를 콜업해야 한다는 여론이 주류이며, 페이커에게 수많은 돌림판을 돌린 김정균에 대해서도 적대적이다. 또한 T1 인플루언서로 활동 중인 팀 레전드 선수들을 비하하며 팀에서 쫓아내기 위해 각종 여론 선동과 가짜뉴스를 유포하며 게임단 외적 부분에 대해서도 개입을 시도하고 있으며 본인들의 목표를 이룬 뒤에도 남은 구성원들에 대한 악의적인 욕설과 인신 공격을 남발하며 악성 팬덤으로서의 행보를 보이는 중이다.

주 분위기는 T1 팬을 혐오하고 깎아내리는 분위기다. 다만 OGN의 무차별 밴 사태로 인해 언급 자체를 꺼리는 유저들도 존재한다. T1 팬이 많지는 않지만 심심치 않게 볼 수 있다. 19년 이후 다양한 전 프로 및 관계자, 스트리머들의 중계방으로 시청자 풀이 다양화되었으며 20년부터는 울프가 중계를 시작함에 따라 대부분의 T1 팬들은 울프의 중계방에서 경기를 시청하는 편이다.

과거 카오스가 주류 AOS일 때부터 유명했던 카페였지만 점점 커져 대형 커뮤니티로 발전했다. 칸이 KING-ZONE DragonX 시절 웃긴자료 게시판이나 롤 게시판에 패드립을 비롯한 인성 문제를 핑계로 비하하거나 비꼬는 글들이 많았고 카페 운영지기는 이를 방치했다. 하지만 SKT T1으로 이적 후 칸을 비하하던 글은 온데간데 없이 사라지고 칸이 세체탑이라는 등 기존에 없던 칸을 찬양하는 글이 올라오기 시작하고, 마찬가지로 테디가 SKT T1으로 이적하자 갑자기 세체원의 향기가 난다면서 세체라인에 포함을 시켜버리고 다른 팀 선수들과 비교하며 부심을 부리기도 한다

T1 팬 뿐만 아니라 각종 어그로꾼과 반대로 까는 팬들 또한 상주해 있기 때문에 항상 기사 댓글은 개판이다. 예전에는 베스트 댓글이 SKT 중심적이었으나, 뱅의 100인분 발언 사건이 조명되고 T1 팬들의 행태 또한 조명되기 시작하자 SKT 패배 기사에는 온갖 별명을 들어 페이커와 SKT 선수들을 조롱하는 덧글이 달리고 다른 선수들이 활약상을 보이는 경기 영상이나 기사가 나올 때에도 SKT 선수들을 들먹이며 비교하고 조롱을 가하는 덧글이 올라온다. 그러다가 SKT 선수들이 승리를 거둔 기사가 올라오거나 SKT를 패배시킨 팀이 다른 팀에게 대패를 하는 등의 기사가 올라오면 기다렸다는 듯이 슼빠들이 슼까들을 조롱하고, 슼까들은 버로우하거나 볼멘소리로 대꾸하는, 악성 팬들이 투닥거리는 롤갤같은 전쟁터로 변한 상태다.

위클리 LCK에서 롤챔스의 역사를 살펴보는 코너가 있었는데 2014년 경기가 나오지 않았다. 즉 이 시즌에 스프링 우승 / 서머 준우승의 커리어를 쌓았던 삼성 블루나 윈터 준우승 / 스프링 3위 / 서머 3위를 기록했던 삼성 화이트의 경기를 아예 배제한 것으로, 롤챔스 역사를 잘 모르는 사람이 보면 삼성 블루와 화이트의 커리어가 없었던 걸로 오해할 수 있다. 이 시기 SKT는 두 시즌 연속으로 NLB로 추락할 만큼 SKT의 암흑기였다. 2018년 스프링 시즌에는 공짜폰이라던가,크라운 참교육이라는 선수들을 비하하는 제목의 영상을 게시하는 일이 발생했다. 두 선수 모두 2018년 페이커보다 훨씬 좋은 경기력을 보여주고 있었음에도 불구하고 이런 코멘트를 달았다. 또한 OGN의 SKT 밀어주기식 해설도 비판받았다. 2019년부터 LCK 중계를 라이엇이 독점하게 되면서 OGN과 관련된 언급들은 거의 사장되었다.

수많은 패악질을 행해온 슼갈이지만, 공적인 활동을 하는 e스포츠 관계자(해설자, 기자 등)들 중 대부분은 이러한 슼갈들의 잘못된 발언/행동에 대해 지적하는 것을 꺼린다. '팬'이라는 가면 아래에서 수많은 악플과 선수 및 관계자들의 생매장을 저질러 온 바 있는 T1 팬덤이기에, 그리고 롤판에서 근무하는 입장에서 함부로 이들을 건드리기 쉽지 않은 것이 현실이다.[11][12]

2019년 11월 26일, LCK 분석데스크에 합류했던 좁쌀 해설이 군입대를 앞두고 방송에서 슼갈을 저격하기도 했다. LCK 관계자가 특정 팬덤을 저격한 것은 e스포츠 최초였지만 시기가 그리핀 사건이 진행중이었던 스토브 기간이었던 만큼 선수들 영입 기사에 금방 밀렸고 딱히 논란거리로 주목받지 않은 채 지나갔다. 좁쌀 해설이 T1 팬덤에게 받은 악플세례를 의식해서 보복성으로 쓴 글이 아닌, 정말 T1 팬덤에서 행하는 일 및 LCK와 T1을 위하는 방향에서 쓴 글이므로, 올바른 팬 문화를 위해 T1 팬들 역시 한 번쯤 읽어봄직한 글이다.

[1] 유사 단어로는 '쵸독'이 있으며, '젠첩'이라는 멸칭으로도 불린다.[2] 참고로 저 '슼'이라는 글자는 완성형에 없다.[3] OGN 유튜브 링크. 현재는 LCK가 라이엇 코리아 직영으로 바뀌어 다소 옛말이 되었지만 과거 OGN은 폰, 크라운 등의 라이벌 게이머들을 비하하면서까지 페이커를 밀어주어 스타리그 시절부터 불리던 온부커넷이라는 멸칭이 다시 회자될 정도로 밀어주기의 정도가 극심했다. 물론 실력 없는 선수가 단지 OGN의 밀어주기만으로 스타가 되었다는 것은 아니다.[4] 인터넷상에서 T1 팬이면 슼갈, 젠지 팬이면 젠첩, 디플러스 팬이면 담민이로 비하하려는 움직임이 일상적으로 일어난다. 물론 양지든 음지든 예외는 아니다.[5] 이 때문에 OGN에 우호적인 인벤조차 광역 밴 사태 이후 OGN을 '메지엔'이라 부르며 보이콧을 시도한 적이 있었다.[6] 사실 이런 현상은 의외로 많이 찾아볼 수 있는데, 지금은 멸망하여 트위터로 본진을 옳긴 남혐 사이트의 대표격이자 슼갈이라는 단어의 원조인 메갈리아 내에서는 엑소, 빅뱅 등의 남성 그룹의 인기가 매우 높았다.[7] 2000년대 후반 이후 국내야구 갤러리 일대에서 SK 와이번스 팬덤의 멸칭으로 사용되기 시작했다.[8] 이 시기 슼마갤은 롤갤 등지에 글을 퍼가서 박제하는 슼까들에게 시도때도 없이 두들겨 맞는 위치였다. 이 때문에 타 팀 선수들의 비방글이 올라오거나 지나친 SKT 선수 띄워주기 글이 올라올 경우 매니저가 지우고 밴을 먹이는 등의 조치가 행해지고 갤러리에 상주한 인원들도 이런 점을 경계하여 눈에 튀는 발언들을 자제 및 견제하였다.[9] 롤갤의 일상인 타 선수를 비방, 욕설은 없었다. 진에어 존버메타 욕설이나, 비디디 교통사고 욕설 같은 짓거리는 네이버 덧글이나 유튜브 덧글에 있었다.[10] 롤갤도 가만있지는 않으므로 계속 서로의 개념글에 올라간 글과 작성자를 저격하고 비난을 주고받는 등 병림픽을 이어가고 있는 실정이다.[11] 실제로 케스파컵에서 ESC에버와 T1의 경기에서 T1이 졌는데 김철민 캐스터가 열광을 했다는 이유로 슼갈들이 게시판 테러를 일삼고 결국 김철민 캐스터는 교체되었다. #[12] 팬덤의 의존도가 매우 높아 제작사, 운영진 측에서 팬덤을 함부로 계도하지 못하고 내부 악습과 폐단이 반복되고 있는 한국 아이돌계, 뮤지컬계와 거의 똑같은 길을 걷고 있는 셈이다.
