토킹 헤즈의 대표 명곡으로 1980년대를 주름 잡던 뉴 웨이브와 포스트 펑크의 상징격 곡으로 여겨진다.브라이언 이노와 함께 제작한 곡이다. 노래의 좋은 파트는 따로 떼어내고 반복적으로 그 파트를 재생하면서 작업했고 이는 초기 힙합과 이노가 밴드에 소개한 펠라 쿠티라는 아티스트들의 아프로비트 음악에 영향을 받았음을 보여준다. 데이비드 번은 이 과정에 대해 현대의 루핑과 샘플링에 비유하여 밴드를 "인간 샘플러"라고 표현하기도 했다. 원래는 펑크(Funk) 느낌으로 만들려고 했으나 실패했다고 한다.
처음에는 이노가 좋아하는 곡이 아니었고, 그래서 밴드는 이 곡을 거의 포기했다. 키보디스트 제리 해리슨은 "이 노래는 코드 변화가 거의 없었고, 모든 것이 일종의 무아지경에 있었기 때문에 후렴구를 쓰는 것이 더 어려워졌다."고 당시를 회상했다. 그러나 데이비드 번은 이 곡에 대한 확실한 믿음이 있었고 결국 녹음을 지속했다. 이노는 노래를 부르며 후렴구의 멜로디를 발전시켰고, 모든 것이 맞추어지기 시작했다. 밴드의 신스 사운드를 담당하는 제리 해리슨은 전주 부분의 명랑한 신디사이저 라인을 만들었고 벨벳 언더그라운드의 "What Goes On"에서 따온 해먼드 오르간 클라이맥스를 추가했다.
데이비드 번의 가사와 보컬은 라디오에서 들은 전도사의 말에 영감을 받은 것이라고 한다. 보컬을 전도하듯이 내뱉는 것이 그 이유.
