뮤직비디오에서는 예술적인 감각을 제대로 나타낸다. 이네즈&비누드가 처음으로 뮤직비디오 감독을 맡게 되었는데, 팝+예술의 포부에 맞게 각종 고전 무성영화의 트리뷰트, 마릴린 먼로의 트리뷰트 등 고전 예술의 오마주를 선보였다. 장편 뮤직비디오를 많이 공개했던 그녀였지만 이번에는 노래 길이에 딱 맞게 촬영했다.

후렴구 직전의 부분 'I live for the applause, applause, applause'이 유출되고 이어 트랙 전체가 유출되는 사태까지 이르자 레이디 가가는 트위터로 '팝 비상사태'를 선언하며 19일 뮤비와 함께 발매 예정이던 곡을 일주일이나 앞당겨서 싱글 "Applause"를 공개했다.

5. 평가

호불호가 갈린다. 좋은 평가도 많지만 ARTPOP 앨범 안에서 상대적으로 상위권 트랙이라는 것이지 곡에 대한 평가는 이제까지의 레이디 가가의 대형 히트 싱글들에는 떨어진다는 평가.

이 트랙은 원래 앨범에 수록되지 않을 예정이었으나 소속사 사장의 강력한 주장으로 첫 싱글로 발매되었다고 한다.

Grand Theft Auto V에도 삽입되었다. 라디오의 Non Stop Pop FM 채널이나 바닐라 유니콘 스트립 클럽에서 들을 수 있다.

2014년 기아자동차의 쏘울 북미판 광고에 메인음악으로 쓰였다.
