1. 개요

고객만족을 넘어 고객 행복으로, 생산과 판매가 하나가 됩니다.

경기도 부천시 오정로 215에 위치한 자동차 판매 및 정비 사업을 영위하는 회사다.

자일자동차의 법적 전신은 대우자동차판매 버스판매 부문이며, 초기 분사 당시에는 자일대우자동차판매라는 사명으로 설립되었다. 오늘날에는 과거 계열사였던 자일대우버스의 자산을 양수양도받아 해외에서 버스 사업을 영위하고 있다. 아시아 각지에 공장이 있지만, 대한민국에도 베트남 공장에서 생산한 대우버스를 역수입해 판매한 바 있다.

대우자동차판매에서는 현 시점의 사업 중 일부인 판매에 대한 부분만 승계되었고, 자일대우버스에서 대부분의 영위사업과 모든 공장 및 자일대우버스 해외 법인 비다버스(베트남 대우버스)가 승계되었다.

1993년 대우자동차가 자동차판매부문을 구 대우자동차판매로 분리한 뒤 한독과 합병해 우회상장했다가, 2010년 GM대우의 일괄거래 해지로 경영난이 심각해지자 2013년 구 대우자동차판매의 버스판매사업을 분리해서 자일대우버스의 소유주인 영안모자그룹에 매각하였다.

2022년 자일대우버스가 국내공장 폐쇄를 위해 폐업하면서 자산을 인수하였다. 당초에는 베트남에서 버스를 수입해다가 대한민국에도 판매했으나[7], 지금은 자사 해외공장에서 생산된 버스의 국내 도입을 중단하고 메르세데스-벤츠 스프린터 같은 타 회사의 상용차만 판매하고 있다.

이후 베트남 생산법인의 명칭을 "비다버스(VIDA BUS)[8]"로 바꾸었다.

원래 부평구 청천동에 본사가 있었으나, 2018년경에 철거되었다.[9] 우림라이온스벨리에 입주하다가 현재는 영안모자 본사로 이전했다.

3. 상세

구. 자일대우버스가 보유했었던 베트남 법인 지분 100%, 코스타리카 법인 지분 98.56%를 갖고 있다. 이 밖에도 합작법인인 대우팍모터스(파키스탄 법인) 지분 50%, 대우버스카자흐스탄 지분 50%, 대우버스미얀마 지분 25%, 계림대우버스(중국 법인) 지분 20%, MTBML(대만 법인) 지분 15.43%을 보유하고 있다.

4. 사건 사고

2023년, 베트남 대우버스에서 몽골 울란바토르 시내버스에 NEW BS106 600대를 납품하는 계약을 했다.

1차로 100대 가량의 차량이 먼저 수출되었으나 일부 차량에서 한국산 및 한국으로 수입된 베트남산보다 더 심각한 품질 문제가 터졌고 해당 차량의 차대번호를 조회하자 1993년식으로 조회되면서 30년 된 중고차를 속여 판 것 아니냐는 의혹까지 받고 있다. 자일자동차의 해명으로는 중고 버스를 팔았다는 건 '가짜 뉴스'라고 선을 그은 상황이다.

모 커뮤니티 사이트, 영상, 몽골 현지 언론 기사의 사진을 보면 유로 2 대응 DE08Tis 탑재 차량에 유로 5 스티커를 붙었으며[10], 부실 버스 수출 논란으로 한국인 4명을 체포해 조사를 받고 2명이 구속됐다.

이 사건으로 인해 현지에서 대서특필된 것은 물론이고 더 나아가 울란바토르 시장이 책임지고 사임한다고 발표했으며 몽골 수사당국도 진상 조사에 나서고 몽골 야당 측 의원들이 한국 대사관을 찾아 조사 요청 서신을 보내는 등 외교 문제까지 번질 가능성이 높아 논란은 점점 더 커지고 있다. 채널A 기사

결국 해당 사건으로 울란바토르 시장이 물러났으며 문제의 차종은 운행이 금지됐고 해당 사건에 연루된 25명은 몽골 부패방지부에 의해 조사를 받고 시와 직접 구매 계약을 채결한 현지 기업은 110억 투그릭(약 42억 원)의 자산을 동결당하고 대표가 구속됐다.

이후 부시장이 권한대행으로 사업을 이어 5개의 기업이 새로 공개입찰로 참여했는데 중국의 위통버스가 선정돼 600대의 버스를 1,650억 투그릭(약 627억 원)에 공급하는 계약을 체결했다. #, #

부실 버스 수출 논란 이후에도 베트남 공장은 정상적으로 가동해 해외 수출은 계속 하지만, 한국 수출은 더 이상 하지 않는다.
