6.1. 철도

1. 개요

홍콩의 구 중 하나로 신계 일부로 면적은 175.03km²이고, 인구는 2020년 기준으로 186,600명이다.

한글 독음으로 레이더우구라고 쓰면 무슨 뜻인지 전혀 감이 안 올 텐데, 한자로 離島區라고 쓰면 한자를 안다면 직관적으로 무슨 뜻인지 감이 올 것이다. 그렇다. (홍콩 본토와) 떨어진 섬들을 하나의 구로 만든 것이다. 즉 란타우 섬(大嶼山)을 비롯한 홍콩의 낙도 지역을 뭉뚱그려 만든 구역이다.

2. 역사

1898년에 영국이 조차하였지만, 변두리쪽에 있어서 크게 주목받지도 못했고, 오랫동안 어촌의 모습을 보여왔다. 그러나 1990년대 이후 홍콩 국제공항이 생기면서 주목받기 시작해 공항 주변에 신도시가 들어서면서 도시화가 진행되었다.

지금은 도시와 어촌 사이의 공존을 이루고 있다.

3. 정치

친중파가 강한 지역으로 2019년 홍콩 민주화 운동 여파에 치른 2019년 홍콩 구의회 선거에서도 간선 의석 수가 8석으로 다른 구에 비해 많다보니 다른 구들이 민주파, 본토파가 장악하는 동안 친중파가 다수에 유지할 수 있었다는 점이다. 현재 친중파는 민건련 1석, 무소속 2석이다. 민주파는 민주당 1석, 무소속 3석을 자치한다는 점이다.

4. 지리

말 그대로 섬들로만 이루어진 구. 홍콩 국제공항이 이 구에 있으며 그 외 자질구레한 여러 섬들이 있다.[2] 면적이 홍콩의 16%를 차지하지만, 인구가 2%에 불과한다는 점이다. 남부와 남서부 20여개로 구성되어있고, 홍콩에서 낙도(레이더우)라는 말은 레이더우 구의 섬을 의미 가진다는 것이다.

란타우 섬(Lantau Island, 大嶼山)
홍콩 전체에서 제일 큰 섬. 광동어로는 다이위 산(大嶼山)이라고 하며, 란타우(爛頭)라는 이름은 원래 섬에 있는 봉황산의 옛 이름이다. 대여산이라는 이름 답게 해발 934미터의 봉황산이 있어서 비행기를 내릴 때 뷰가 좋다.[3] 홍콩 국제공항이 이 섬 앞바다에 떠 있는 첵랍콕 암초에 있고, 홍콩 디즈니랜드도 이곳에 있다. 노란색의 뚱충선과 MTR 공항선이라는 공항철도가 구룡반도 및 홍콩 섬을 연결해준다. 송나라가 멸망으로 치닫던 1278년, 마지막 저항을 벌이던 송의 유신들에 의해 옹립된 송 최후의 황제 송소제가 이곳에서 황제로 즉위했다. 동양 최대의 불상이 있으며 역시 동양 유일의 가톨릭 봉쇄 수도회인 트래피스트 수도회의 수도원이 있다. 이웃한 마완 섬에는 구세군에서 만든 개신교 종교시설인 솔라 타워가 있다. 홍콩 섬 남부 리펄스 베이 및 스탠리와 동쪽의 타이쿠 및 사이완호, 구룡반도 카우룽통과 여기에 가장 백인들이 많다. 특히 구룡반도 부두, (선박 이용시) 센트럴 선착장 등 에서 건널 수 있는 디스커버리 베이(약칭 D'bay)는 가장 외국인이 많은 동네. 아시아인을 찾기가 더 힘든 곳이다.

청차우_/죙자우 섬(Cheung Chau, 長洲)
홍콩 센트럴에서 뱃길로 1시간(쾌속선 30분) 거리에 있는 섬. 영국령이 되기 이전 가장 인구가 많았던 지역이다. 현지인들의 주말 여행지로 인기가 있으며 최근 들어 한국인들도 색다른 홍콩의 매력을 찾기 위해 방문하고 있다. 특이한 점은 자동차가 단 한 대도 없다는 것. 대신 자전거와 수레를 이용한다. 진짜다. 그래도 소방차, 구급차는 당연히 다닌다.

라마 섬(Lamma Island, 南丫)
부속도서로는 청차우 섬 다음으로 유명하다. 섬의 북쪽에는 페리 선착장을 중심으로 용슈완이라 불리는 큰 마을이 조성되어 있으나, 남쪽은 드문드문 집들이 있는 전원마을 분위기이다. 북쪽과 남쪽은 차도로 연결되어있지 않아 섬 전체를 둘러보려면 트래킹이 필수다. 특히 청차우 섬은 비록 경사는 좀 있어도 대체로 포장도로를 따라 트래킹을 하는 반면, 이쪽은 아예 비포장 산길을 걸어야만 하는 코스로, 등산화까지는 아니더라도 최소한 운동화 정도는 신어줘야 무리가 없을 것이다. 남쪽의 자연경관이 훌륭하고 남쪽의 중심이라 할 수 있는 소쿠완은 해산물 식당들로 유명하며, 작지만 페리 선착장이 있다. 보통 홍콩섬에서 페리를 타고 용수완에 도착한 뒤, 전망 포인트들을 따라 소쿠완까지 트래킹을 한 후, 식사를 하고 페리를 타고 나가는 식의 관광을 한다. 작은 섬이지만 하루에 모든 포인트를 돌기에는 시간이 부족할 것이므로 적절히 계획을 세우는 것이 좋다. 배우 주윤발의 고향.

5. 시설

퉁충_/둥충(Tung Chung 東涌, Dung1 cung1)
홍콩 국제공항 개항에 따라 생긴 신도시. 여기 주민들 대부분이 홍콩 국제공항에 가서 일하는 경우가 꽤 있는 듯. 애초에 여기서 시내 나가려면 교통비 부담이 장난이 아니다. MTR로 간다고 해도 HK$20(한국 돈으로 약 3천원)은 각오해야...

란터우 섬과 홍콩 섬을 잇는 MTR 뚱충선과 뚱충역의 이름이 바로 이 신도시의 이름에서 온 것이다.

6. 교통

홍콩 국제공항
란타우섬 바로 위에 있는 첵랍콕_/첵랍곡 섬(赤鱲角島, _{한국 한자음: 적렵각}, Chek Lap Kok)에 자리잡고 있는데, 첵랍콕섬은 간척을 통해 이웃 람차우 섬과 합체하였고 란타우 섬과도 이어져 있다. 홍콩 국제공항은 첵랍콕 공항이라고도 불린다.
