2025년 6월 27일에 발매된 로드의 4번째 정규 앨범.

2. 발매 과정

2025년 4월 24일, 약 4년 만에 새 싱글 "What Was That"을 발매하였다.[1] 더불어 같은 날 뉴욕시에서 촬영한 뮤직비디오도 공개되었으며, 워싱턴 스퀘어 파크에서 깜짝 라이브 공연을 열기도 했다.[2]

4월 30일, SNS를 통해 앨범명, 수록곡 수, 참여진 등 여러 정보들을 공개했다.[3]

메타크리틱에선 100점 만점에 81점을, AnyDecentMusic?에선 10점 만점에 7.6점을 매기며 호평을 받았다. 피치포크는 앨범이 과거의 연장선에 있으면서도 거칠고 섬세하며, 자유와 변화에 대한 찬가처럼 느껴진다고 평했고, 로드가 대중의 반응에 어느 정도 동의하는 듯 보인다고 전하며 이전 앨범 Solar Power가 Melodrama만큼의 반향을 일으키지 못했다는 점을 짚었다. 그러면서 이번 앨범이 Melodrama 이후 잠시 떠났던 프로그래밍된 드럼과 전자음의 불꽃 같은 사운드를 다시 꺼내들었다고 분석했다. 특히 리드 싱글 "What Was That"은 Melodrama의 리드 싱글 "Green Light"를 떠올리게 할 만큼 유사하며, "차라리 곡 제목을 "Green Light"이 아니라 'Blue Light'로 지었어도 이상하지 않았을 것"이라고 평하기도 했다.

버라이어티는 감정의 흐름을 따라 들쭉날쭉한 전자음 중심의 프로덕션이 가사와 잘 어우러진다고 호평했다. 인디펜던트의 경우, 이 앨범이 로드의 전성기 때로 완전히 돌아온 건 아니나 로드가 그 방향으로 다시 달려가고 있다는 점에서 의미 있는 앨범이라 평가했다. 롤링 스톤은 로드가 과거의 이미지를 붙잡기보단 본인 스스로를 재정의하며 혼돈 속의 재창조(chaos of reinvention)를 골랐다고 평가했다. 더 가디언은 전체적인 사운드가 불안정하고 거칠긴 하나 전자음이나 과감한 레이브 스타일의 리프[7]로 터져 나오는 부분이 인상적이라고 평했다. 또, 발라드보단 뱅어 곡의 비중이 높고, 큰 후렴구가 넘쳐난다는 점도 특징으로 꼽았다. 더불어 로드의 송라이팅은 1집 Pure Heroine 때와 같이 여전히 뛰어나다고 평가했다.

앨범 커버는 벨트 버클, 바지 지퍼, IUD, 골반 뼈 등이 나와있는 엑스레이 이미지이다.[12][13]

로드는 이번 앨범을 통해 본인의 여성성을 "있는 그대로의, 원초적이며 순수하고 우아하며, 열린 마음에 영적이며 남성적인" 것으로 정의한다고 한다.[14]

전작 Pure Heroine, Melodrama, Solar Power와 마찬가지로 4년 간격으로 발매되었다.[15]
