3. 여담
가사는 의인화된 단풍나무와 참나무 간의 갈등에 대한 내용이다. 키가 작은 단풍나무는 더 많은 햇빛을 원했지만 키가 큰 참나무는 단풍나무를 무시했고, 결국 단풍나무가 조합을 결성해 평등한 권리를 요구한 결과 숲의 모든 나무들이 도끼와 톱으로 평등해졌다는 이야기. 작사가인 닐 피어트는 이 곡을 "집단주의에 대한 우화"라고 표현했다.캐나다의 음악학자 듀렐 바우만은 이 곡이 방송국에서 일정 비율 이상의 캐나다 콘탠츠를 방영할 것을 규정했던 당시 캐나다의 콘텐츠법에 대한 비판이라고 해석했다. # 캐나다는 문화 강국인 미국과 맞닿아 있고 언어도 같은 영어를 사용하기 때문에 자국 문화산업 보호를 위한 이런 법이 있었다.
자유지상주의 SF & 판타지 소설을 대상으로 하는 프로메테우스상 명예의 전당 부문에 후보로 올랐다.
