1. 개요

미국 캘리포니아 로스앤젤레스에 위치한 실용 음악대학.

2. 상세

전신은 기타를 전문으로 하는 The Guitar Institute of Technology(GIT)로 재즈 기타리스트인 하워드 로버츠(Howard Roberts)와 사업가 팻 힉스(Pat Hicks)가 1977년에 설립하였다.

그 후 학과가 확대되어 드럼 전문의 Percussion Institute of Technology(PIT)와 베이스 기타 전문의 Bass Institute of Technology(BIT)가 설치되며 1994년에 미국 정부에서 공인으로 인증을 한 정식 음악대학이 되며, 1995년에는 ESP와 쉑터 등을 설립한 기업가 시부야 히사타케가 MI를 인수하여 경영하게 된다.

줄여서 MI로 부르며, 후술할 MI TOKYO와 구분하여 MI Hollywood라고 지칭할 때도 있다.
