1995년 4월 25일에 발매된 Mobb Deep의 2번째 정규 앨범인 'The Infamous'의 수록곡이다. 앨범의 두번째 싱글로 1995년 5월 29일에 발매되었다.
2. 상세
Mobb Deep의 마스터피스인 The Infamous의 수록곡들 중 가장 유명한 곡 중 하나이다.[3] 서부의 G-funk 아티스트들이 그려오던 섹스, 술, 마약등의 쾌락에 쩔어있고, 로우라이더를 모는 갱스터의 모습과 다르게 Nas의 illmatic처럼 Prodigy와 Havoc이 경험했던 갱스터로서 사는 삶을 보여주며 특히 제목의 의미인 적자생존과 Havoc의 코러스에서 강한 자만이 살아남는다는 걸 보면 결국 갱스터의 삶은 약육강식이며 심지어 갱스터가 아닌 자들은 물론 오랜 옛날 원시인들이 살았던 야생의 세계에서도 그랬으며 자본주의로 점철된 지금도 나아지기는 커녕 오히려 더더욱 심화되었다는 것을 생각하면 상당히 인상이 깊다.Prodigy가 요절했을 때 에미넴이 Survival of the Fittest의 벌스 중 일부를 부른 후 추도했다.
