8집에서 가장 유명한 두 개의 트랙 중 하나[1]로, RHCP 특유의 펑키한 스타일을 대표하는 곡이며 2000년대를 대표하는 록 리프로 자주 꼽히는 펑크 록 역사상 가장 유명한 곡으로도 꼽히는 명곡이다. 이런 수식어들이 말해주듯 웬만한 라이브에서 단 한번도 빠진 적이 없는 명실상부 그들의 간판 곡 중 하나이다. [2]상업적인 부분에서는 레드 핫 칠리 페퍼스의 노래들 중 8번째로 빌보드 모던 록 차트에서 1위를 기록하며, 3주간 1위를 기록하였다. 그러나 빌보드 핫 100에서는 57위를 기록하며 비교적 아쉬운 모습을 보여주었다.[3]
노래 내내 쭉 이어지는 플리의 쫄깃한 슬랩과 존 프루시안테의 펑키한 리프가 매우 인상적인데, 이로 인해서인지 기타나 베이스를 연주하는 연주자들은 이 노래를 연주할 수 있거나 시도해 봤다는 이야기도 있을 정도로 연주자들에게 매우 인기가 많다. 다만 기타의 경우 메인 리프가 스캥크 주법[4]을 사용해 연주해야 하기 때문에 간단한 음 구성에도 많이 어려워 하곤 한다. 덕분에 연습곡으로도 애용되곤 한다.
펑키한 음악의 특성상 라임을 맞추기 위한 가사가 많아서 가사의 분량이 매우 많고 또 부르기 어렵다. 특히나 랩과 노래의 중간인 그 무언가의 스타일이기도 해서, 굉장히 커버로 느낌을 살려내기 어려운 노래이다.
오프닝 파트는 제프 버클리의 Grace 앨범 수록곡인 Eternal Life의 오프닝을 오마주하였다.
