그래미 수상 이후 도이치에 대한 관심이 한창 많아질 시기 2019년에 찍은 "Somebody That I Used To Know"의 비트에 맞추어 랩을 하는 영상이 바이럴되면서 정식 발매가 되기 전에도 불구하고 틱톡에서 좋은 반응을 얻었으며, 정식 발매 전에는 Sleep Token이라는 프로듀서가 도이치 커버 버전을 샘플링한 노래가 먼저 빌보드 차트에 들 정도였다.

이 곡이 발매된 이후 여러 차트 1위를 찍는 등 큰 인기를 누렸으나 고티에의 노래 "Somebody That I Used To Know"의 인스트루멘탈을 그대로 가져다 샘플링했다는 점[2][3], 인스타그램과 틱톡 등 SNS에서의 극심한 바이럴, 뮤비 후반부의 갑분 트월킹과 촌스러운 단체 안무, 멧 갈라에서의 스태프에 대한 갑질 논란 등의 악재가 겹쳐 현재는 부정적인 반응이 대다수를 차지하고 있다. 실제로 뮤비의 좋아요/싫어요 수는 각각 82만/59만으로 싫어요 비율이 엄청나게 높은 것을 볼 수 있다. 이로 인해 이 노래가 나오는 릴스나 뮤비에서 보이는 댓글에는 "하반신 마비가 있었는데 기적적으로 휠체어에서 일어났다," "이 노래가 재생되자 수 년 동안의 코마 상태에서 깨어났다," "이 노래를 알람으로 설정해서 알람이 울리기 전에 일어날 것이다"[4], "나는 이 노래를 우리 집 화재 경보기 사이렌 소리로 설정해놓을 것이다," "차라리 "Thick Of It"[5]을 들으러 갈 것이다." 등등 조롱성 댓글이 좋아요를 엄청나게 많이 받아 상위권에 노출된 모습을 볼 수 있다.

특히 보컬을 제외한 반주가 둘다 완전히 일치한다는 점에서 러시안 룰렛 마냥 5개의 곡을 "Somebody That I Used To Know"로, 1개의 곡을 "Anxiety"로 이루어진 플레이리스트를 듣는 트렌드가 있다[6], 고티에 노래인줄 알았는데 알고 보니 도이치 노래여서 흥이 다 깨졌다는 밈이 있다. 오죽하면 해당 곡의 유튜브 댓글에는, 'Anxiety'[7]의 의미는 이 곡이 고티에 노래인지 도이치 노래인지 반주를 들으며 기다릴 때의 느낌이라던가, 이 곡을 듣고 없던 불안감이 생겼어요 하는 식의 반응이 많다.
