1. 개요

2012년 8월 19일에서 9월 8일까지 일본에서 개최된 FIFA U-20 여자 월드컵의 여섯 번째 대회.

1.1. 개최지 변경

개최국 선정 과정에서 개최국이 한 번도 아니고 무려 세 번이나 바뀐 흔치 않은 일이 일어났다.

원래는 베트남이 유치 경쟁에서 승리했지만 정부의 지원 문제로 개최권을 반납했고, 뉴질랜드는 처음에 예비 개최국으로 선정되었지만, 역시 개최권을 반납하고 2015 FIFA U-20 월드컵 개최권을 대신 따냈다. 그렇게 해서 우즈베키스탄이 개최국으로 거론되었으나 개최 준비 및 시설이 부실하다고 판단되어, FIFA 집행위원회는 2011년 12월에 일본 도쿄에서 회의를 열어 우즈베키스탄의 개최권을 박탈하고 새로운 개최국으로 일본을 선정하게 되었다.
