전설이 된 입덕 영상

인터뷰가 전설이 된 후에 아예 방송국에 나와서 인터뷰를 했다.
사고를 당한 차도 몰고 와서 공개를 했다.

1. 개요

2011년 9~11월 사이에 유행되었던 영미권의 밈. 폭스 뉴스의 유명한 인터뷰 중 하나였던 조지 린델(George Lindell)의 인터뷰로부터 시작된 밈이다. 미국 애리조나주 피닉스에서 발생한 교통사고로 인해 자신의 차가 뒤집힌 상황을 피해자인 조지 씨가 현실감 있게 묘사하면서 나온 표현과 몸짓이 강렬하여 이게 퍼지게 된 것.

녹음된 소리를 위의 영상처럼 노래로 바꿀 수가 있는 SONGIFY라는 어플리케이션을 홍보하기 위해 schmoyoho라는 유튜브 채널에서 현실감 넘치는 이 인터뷰를 활용했는데 FOOM! 등의 효과가 엄청났는지 곧이어 각종 패러디가 쏟아졌다.

한국에서는 걸스데이 민아 입덕계기 영상이 유행타면서 2013년부터 'XX 입덕 영상', 'XX 입덕계기 영상'이라는 패러디가 쏟아지고 있다. 최초로 이걸 '입덕계기 영상'이라고 만든 유래에 대해선 아직 알려진 바가 없는데, 현재까지 찾을 수 있는 것 중 가장 오래된 입덕계기 영상은 이영싫의 백모래 영상.

2. Reality hits you hard, Bro

Reality hits you는 조지 린델 개인이 지어낸 말로, 영상을 보고 난 후 폭스 뉴스의 아나운서들이 서로 얘기를 하며 조지 린델의 문장이 매우 시적이라며 대화를 나누는 데서 알 수 있다.

직역론
실제로 서양에서는 예상치 못한 데서 큰 충격을 받았을 때 'It hit me like a hammer.(망치로 한 대 얻어맞은 것 같아.)' 등과 같은 표현을 많이 쓰는데, 조지 린델은 그 표현을 살짝 다르게 써서 아예 현실이 직접 자신을 한 대 쳤다는 식으로 참신하게 표현했고 이와 함께 그 격렬한 몸짓이 강력한 시너지 효과를 일으켜 수많은 패러디를 양산하게 되어 인기를 끌게 된 것. 그러므로 완전한 의역보다는 원 문장을 살려 '현실에게 세게 한 방 얻어맞은 기분이야.'정도가 적당하다. 국내에서도 비슷하게 '현실에 치인다'라는 말이 사용된다.

의역론?
"현실이 때려 팬다"고 직역하는 사람들이 있으나, 이 부분은 관용어적인 표현이다. 예를 들어, "They're like bunch o' crabs in a bucket."를 직역하면, "그 사람들은 양동이 안에 있는 게들 같아."지만, 그 안에 담긴 뜻은, "(통안에 담긴 게 마냥) 그들은 서로 질투해서 서로 싸운다."[1]인 것과 같은 이치이다. 그러나 말장난(pun)이 연결되어 있는 경우에는 직역 버전의 느낌도 다루어지는 만큼 상당히 조심스럽게 다뤄야 할 번역 문구. 아래 번역본에는 "세상살이 힘들어, 친구."라고 의역했다.

그 외에도 내 멘탈은 승천했어 등으로 초월 번역되기도 하며, 2020년대 들어 새로 쓰이는 표현 중에선 세상이 날 억까한다라는 게 꽤 비슷한 뉘앙스로 해석할 수 있다.
